Land that remembers Šumadija

The monastery was consecrated on 19 June 1994, on the feast of the Descent of the Holy Spirit. Patriarch Pavle served the Liturgy, surrounded by bishops, priests and a great many faithful.

It had begun years earlier as one nun’s hope — that somewhere in North America there might be a community living as they do at Žiča, Studenica and Ljubostinja. Father Theodore Jurewicz wrote the frescoes himself and asked nothing for the work.

“Upon entry into the sanctuary, you are surrounded by frescoes, the smell of tamjan, candles flickering — and you know you have entered into Christ’s dominion.”

Steve Michael · South Bend, Indiana

Ask for prayer

Send a name to the altar.

The sisters commemorate names daily, in their own prayers and at every Liturgy — for health and salvation, or for the repose of the departed.
